The history that surrounds you, even when you pop to the shops is one thing I love about living here. Many of the shops occupy very old buildings. The stairs are uneven, the floors creaky, and every shop has character.

It was an important route, because it leads to a point where the River Itchen can be crossed.

Looking far into the distance, you can just make out the Medieval Gateway called Westgate. It used to be used as a prison, and the prisoners grafitti is still visable today, carved into the walls. Climbing onto the roof gives a beautiful view of the city.
